Whether a chicken is little or big, every chicken is unique in its own way. Here are some fun facts about chickens to get to know them better!
1. Size doesn’t matter:
Don’t be mistaken by its small size. Even though the chicken is amongst the smaller farm animals, it is the closest living relative to the T-Rex. Yes, the T-Rex, only the fiercest dinosaur to have walked the planet!
2. Easter Traditions:
We may have gained inspiration for coloring eggs for Easter from Mother nature herself. Did you know that some breeds of chickens lay colored eggs? The Ameraucana and Araucana can lay eggs of green or blue. Next time you go to a farm, ask Mr. Farmer if he has these special chickens.
3. The Voice:
If it all sounds like clucking to you, make note that it’s not. Chickens have over 200 distinct noises they can make for communicating. Some people who keep chickens as pets name them based on the type of noises they make.
4. 20/20 Vision:
Chickens can see and dream in full color. Maybe you can test your chickens’ color preferences with the colors of clothes you wear when you go into their hen yard.
5. Speedy Chickens:
Chickens can run up to 9 miles per hour. That is probably faster than you can ride your bike around the block!
